JEDDAH –
Jeddah Mayoralty has listed some 531 locations for workers’ housing compounds in the governorate, of which 220 locations have been visited, about 55,000 workers have been checked up, and 1,962 workers have been housed temporarily in 23 government schools, the spokesman of Jeddah Mayoralty Muhammad Al-Bgumi confirmed on Tuesday.

The mayoralty has carried out field campaigns to sanitize and sterilize workers’ housing compounds, as part of the precautionary measures to combat the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and protect Jeddah’s population from the risks of transmission of the infection, Al-Bgumi said.

He added that the mayoralty is studying the situation of these compounds and working on dealing with them via a committee comprising the mayoralty and a number of government authorities.

The municipalities sector is carrying out a package of initiatives to protect the population from the dangers of transmission of coronavirus.

A link has been set up to register workers’ housing compounds belonging to companies and establishments in the mayoralty’s website, with the aim of facilitating the task of the authorities in paying visits to these locations, Al-Bgumi added.

This is with the objective of ensuring workers’ safety, sterilization of workers’ residences, and that all the workers are complying with all the precautionary measures taken by the companies, in line with the directives of the government authorities and the guidebook on conditions governing workers’ housing, he said.

Al-Bgumi asserted that work is under way to follow up on the program for visits to workers’ housing compounds.

He added that registration of workers’ housing compounds is still available via Jeddah Mayoralty’s website for all government authorities and private sector firms and companies to avail of all the available services.
