Bowling City hits grand slam in FTBJ-ICBL 39th Conference

JEDDAH— After a gap of one week since its breakthrough victory, host team Bowling City made a lot of noise during the 14th session when it swept the team and individual honors for the first rare grand slam in the FTBJ-ICBL 39th Conference bowling tournament at the Sultanah Mall’s Bowling City on Tahlia Street here.
Bowling City went third-second-third-first in a consistent display for the three games and overall output while the rest of the contenders played inconsistent bowling.
The result was 39 points and a second Team of the Week award on a Friday afternoon made all the more memorable by Marie Gumpal and Yasser Hokbi.
Gumpal and Hokbi completed the Bowling City grand slam by winning the ladies’ Bowler of the Week and men’s Bowler of the Week awards on 642 and 623 respectively.
League-leading The Synergy International (TSI) Bowlers finished the day’s race at second place on 31 points followed by Crime Buster 30, Ekis Reload 29 and Dabarkads 27.
Cash Pinas-Fawri collected 25 points good for sixth place with FGS Bowlers, who won the second game, on 24 points. First game winner Lance & 3rdy came in eighth with 20 points.
The previous week’s honoree, JP Gilas IV, had a tempered display this time to be on ninth postion with 15 points while Jeraisah and Mixed Nuts brought up the rear in the 11-team field on 13 and 11 points.
Bowling City, captained by Igna Salgado, used the five-man team rotation to count so that Mohamed Al Amri, Matet Cavite and Ryan Conde all went three games to complement Gumpal and Hokbi. Al Amri tallied 602, Cavite 578 and Conde 489.
TSI, already with five Team of the Week victories under its belt and sitting pretty at the top of the team standings, had Azhanawati leading the way on 601 in the five-man team league event sponsored by Harvest Coconut Water juice drink, distributed by Binzagr Co., through Marketing Manager Raju Nair.
Nor Azmi Nordin added 587 to go with the 509 by Grace Funtilon, 156-169 by Suhaime Leong, 168-192 by Tariq Antonio and 224-232 by Shams Mustafa.
For Crime Buster the duo of Lito Zamudio and Gail Mata posted the top scores of 558 and 557 with Babes Yushimie the other player to go three games on 547. The other scorers were Ryan Latigo 171-177, Ian Caringal 179-170 and Jimmy Urbano 203-194.
Faisal Relativo and George Mangaliman both were just a few pins shy of 600-series on 594 and 592 at the helm of Ekis Reload. Malu Relativo and Alma Bacero contributed 558 and 520 while Zaldy Bacero had 192-200 and Fadi Haddad 185 for Ekis.
