Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — More than 300 young men volunteered to work in several municipal projects while celebrating the Kingdom's 85th National Day. Riyadh Municipality National Day Supervisor Ibrahim Al-Huwaimil said the men participated in cleaning the streets and residential areas as well as watering public parks, Al-Watan reported. “The volunteering program was organized by the municipality. We wanted to celebrate the National Day by giving the youth the opportunity to serve their country and have a hand in its development. The motto of our program was 'I Serve My Country'. We were more than pleased by the turnout,” said Al-Huwaimil. He said the municipality also had a celebratory program where volunteers gave out gifts in public places. “We had volunteers distributing pamphlets and brochures to enlighten the general public about the role of the municipality. By increasing awareness, we increase the number of educated people in our community,” said Al-Huwaimil. He also said the municipality dedicated a page on its website where users can express their feelings about the National Day. “We also composed a 60-second video about Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, the achievements of Saudi Arabia and pictures of development projects. The video was broadcasted on TV channels and posted and shared through social media,” said Al-Huwaimil. He added that the municipality also held an awareness campaign on health and exercise. “We organized a walkathon at Prince Abdulaziz Bin Ayyaf Park in Al-Hamrah District. The event was organized in cooperation with the Saudi Sports Federation. The event also included a series of workshops on how to get active in Riyadh,” said Al-Huwaimil. He said the National Day program aimed to captivate the interest of Saudis of both genders and of all ages. “The event was organized by our team of promising volunteers and we had programs for children and adults. The municipality is always open to suggestions and feedback from the community of its services,” said Al-Huwaimil.
