MAKKAH — The Mataf (the circumambulation area around the Kaaba) expansion work has resumed after the departure of most of the Haj pilgrims.
More than 14,000 engineers, technicians and workers are working around the clock for the project to increase the capacity of the Mataf in the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
After completion, the Mataf will accommodate about 105,000 worshipers per hour.
The Saudi Press Agency witnessed the finishing work of the bridges linking the outer squares with the upper floors of the Grand Mosque.
Finishing work has also been completed for the mezzanine floor of the Mataf as well as for Al-Fateh gate, the Umrah gate and the King Abdulaziz gate.
Installations have also resumed for all electromechanical systems, units of the central air-conditioning, ventilation, lighting, sound system, clocks and surveillance cameras.
