Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Minister of Culture and Information Adel Al-Turaifi attended the World Children’s Day ceremony held at King Fahd Cultural Center here to show his support for children’s issues and rights. A source said the minister attended the closing ceremony on Friday to encourage Saudi children to always aim high and become prosperous members of society. “The minister said the World Children’s Day is held in commemoration to the signing of the International Agreement of Children’s Rights. The minister reminded parents that children are the future of the nation. We must respect them, love them, encourage them and raise them on Islamic values so they can carry the torch of light and develop society,” said the source. The source also said the minister spoke about the programs the ministry offers for children’s talents and abilities. “The Ministry of Culture and Information offers creative workshops and programs to nurture talented children and help them express themselves and use their art and talent to help others. The minister also encouraged the private sector to invest in children to offer them as many opportunities to grow and develop as possible,” said the source. The source also said the minister urged people to pay more attention to the children and what they have to say. “They will have a corner at the International Book Fair next month. Children are encouraged to produce their own films and write their own stories. The parents have to guide children to achieving their dreams rather than hindering,” said the source. The source also said the minister touched upon children’s rights. “He reminded the parents and the charitable organizations that children have the right to safety, protection and love. The society should dedicate its efforts to combat child abuse, child neglect and child exploitation,” said the source.
