LOS ANGELES — NBA superstar Kobe Bryant, sidelined by a sore shoulder, could only watch Saturday as Kevin Durant and the Thunder humbled his Los Angeles Lakers 118-78 in Oklahoma City.
Durant scored 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds before resting the fourth quarter with the game well in hand.
Russell Westbrook scored 13 points and handed out 11 assists and center Enes Kanter added 19 points and 14 rebounds in 23 minutes on the floor as Oklahoma City overwhelmed a Lakers team on pace for an even worse finish than their 21-61 record of last season.
“These guys looked like they were scared tonight, or intimidated by Durant and Westbrook,” Lakers coach Byron Scott said, decrying his team’s display as “pathetic in every area.”
Scott had announced before tipoff that Bryant would sit out with a sore right shoulder.
Bryant said the shoulder was troubling him even before he threw down his first dunk of the season against Houston on Thursday — no surprise since he had surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in the same shoulder earlier this year.
“It’s been sore for the last couple of games,” Bryant said.

The Thunder made it clear from the opening buzzer that they intended to bounce back from a loss at Cleveland Thursday.
Durant was scoring from every angle, draining jump shots and powering to the rim.
Guard Lou Williams led the Lakers with 20 points. Guard Jordan Clarkson scored 15 as the Lakers dropped to 4-23.
Wizards 109, Hornets 101: Washington guard John Wall had 27 points and 12 assists as the Wizards exacted revenge on the Charlotte Hornets with a 109-101 win.
Garrett Temple scored a career-high 21 points, Jared Dudley added 19 and Marcin Gortat had 18 for the Wizards (11-14).
Knicks 107, Bulls 91: Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony scored 27 points and New York returned to .500 with a relatively stress-free 107-91 victory over the Chicago Bulls.
Anthony made 12 of 20 shots from the field and helped the Knicks lead for the final 38-plus minutes on a night when they shot 50 percent from the floor.
Grizzlies 96, Pacers 84: Mike Conley scored 20 points and Marc Gasol added 19 to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a 96-84 victory over the Indiana Pacers at FedExForum.
Gasol, who also grabbed 12 rebounds, and Conley, who added eight assists, fueled a late run to push the Grizzlies’ lead to 14 in the closing minutes and keep the Pacers from putting together a comeback.
Rockets 107, Clippers 97: James Harden and Dwight Howard produced double-doubles and the Houston Rockets recorded their fourth consecutive win over the Los Angeles Clippers, 107-97, at Toyota Center.
Harden recorded 18 points and 11 assists while Howard paired 22 points with a game-high 14 rebounds to carry the Rockets (14-14). — Agencies
