MAKKAH — A spokesman for the Makkah Traffic Department has confirmed that traffic violations recorded by Saher cameras are reviewed for accuracy by concerned officers before they are registered against the violators.
Col. Fawzi Al-Ansari said in his statement to the Arabic daily Makkah that in case the officers inadvertently failed to review a Saher report which is recorded against someone who is certain that he did not commit the violation, then it is his right to double check with the Traffic Department.
The traffic officers are required to verify the time and date of the recorded violation to ensure its validity from pictures and videos transmitted by Saher cameras and cancel the violation if it is found to be incorrect, Al-Ansari said.
Citizen Attiyah Al-Bishri said he would not cross a red signal with Saher cameras in place to avoid traffic fines even if he had an ambulance behind him.
"A number of friends shared my opinion. I don't have the time to go to the Traffic Department to review the violations that may have resulted when I am making way for emergency vehicles. I wish that Saher cameras included sensory systems that enable all traffic lights to turn green when ambulances approach," said Al-Bishri.
