JEDDAH — On Monday afternoon thousands of TV viewers watched a firm and composed man presenting the Kingdom's 2016 general budget.
Several of them wondered who the man was, although he has often been seen accompanying visiting dignitaries during official functions. His hallmarks have always been his seriousness and silence.
The man who prefers to work behind the scenes away from the media glare is none other than Abdul Rahman Al-Sadhan, secretary general of the Council of Ministers, a post he has been holding since 2006.
"I feel happy and galvanized stand infront of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, the state visitors and the ministers. This is a great honor for me. I feel happy when it happens," he told Okaz/Saudi Gazette.
Though he has been in this position for a decade now, Al-Sadhan does not appear too much in the media. People only see him during state events.
He, however, gave a lengthy interview to Al-Rajol magazine but everyone who read it would come to believe that the man did not say it all.
Al-Sadhan came from Los Angeles armed with his Ph.D degree. He arrived back home full of enthusiasm to serve his country. He joined the government work and held a number of positions in the process.
Al-Sadhan worked at the Public Administration Institute in Riyadh which has offered a number of leaders to the country.
Al-Sadhan, the important figure in the government, did not have a luxurious life in his childhood.
A journalist, who met him five years ago, wrote that the man was a hard worker.
“He used to be in his office even on Thursday which was an official holiday then," he wrote.
Al-Sadhan eagerly awaits Mondays when the Council of Ministers hold its regular weekly meetings.
