RIYADH - The Human Rights Commission (HRC) confirmed Saturday that the judicial verdict against the 47 individuals sentenced-to-death enforces justice, fulfills Shariah and legal requirements, achieves the purpose and objectives of deterrence, and protects society and its security and stability, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported Saturday. The HRC also said that the terrorist crimes committed by the 47 were the most serious. The HRC added that these ugly crimes have resulted in the killing of scores of innocent civilians, military personnel, citizens and expatriates – including men, women and children. They also incited others to carry out such killings, kidnap people and mutilate their bodies. The militants blew up public and private facilities and housing compounds. They terrorized peaceful citizens and expatriates. They possessed and used weapons and explosives. The terrorists manufactured and smuggled these explosives. They also targeted security and military personnel, carried out armed robberies, joined terrorist organizations and carried out their objectives. They targeted the economic infrastructures. In its statement, the HRC said the criminals deserved these penalties as a result of these crimes that violated human rights and dignity, most prominent of which are the right to live and the right to security. The HRC emphasized that it followed up and attended the trials and ensured that the trial proceedings were made in accordance with the Shariah legal procedures. The Commission also said that the cases were looked into by three judges in the Special Criminal Court and the sentences were appealed before five judges in the Court of Appeal. The sentences were judicially reviewed before five judges in the Supreme Court. The HRC stressed that the achievement of justice and protection of human rights require the implementation of judicial rulings as well as carrying out of the verdicts against whoever violates the rights, kills the innocent and threatens security and stability. – SPA
