NEW YORK — The Florida Panthers, who had not lost at home since Dec. 8, were beaten 4-2 by the Edmonton Oilers at the BB&T Center Monday. Edmonton winger Taylor Hall scored two goals and has 18 for the season. Teddy Purcell had the primary assist on both of Hall’s goals. Blues 5, Penguins 2: Paul Stastny scored one goal and assisted on two more in the third period to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Stastny also assisted on a goal in the first period to record his first four-point game in his two years with the Blues. Avalanche 2, Jets 1: The Colorado Avalanche put a little bit of breathing room between themselves and Winnipeg for the second wild-card playoff spot in the Western Conference with a workmanlike 2-1 victory over the Jets. The Avs improved to 23-21-3 and 49 points while the Jets fell to 21-22-3 and 45. Sabres 2, Coyotes 1: Buffalo rookie center Jack Eichel had a goal and an assist and goaltender Chad Johnson won his second game in three nights in the Sabres’ 2-1 victory over Arizona at Gila River Arena. Eichel and Jamie McGinn scored power-play goals in the second period and Johnson made 26 saves to give the Sabres (19-23-4) their fourth win in five games. Senators 4, Sharks 3 (SO): Mika Zibanejad was the only player to score in the shootout as the Ottawa Senators beat the San Jose Sharks 4-3 at SAP Center. Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson denied Joe Pavelski, Joonas Donskoi and Logan Couture in the shootout. Ottawa winger Bobby Jones tripped Sharks defenseman Brent Burns at 3:08 of overtime to give the hosts just their second power play of the game, but the Sharks failed to score despite putting four shots on net.
