ResizeRIYADH – Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman called for the joint efforts of the global community to counter terrorism and other challenges facing the world.
He made the remarks while addressing the Saudi – Chinese summit talks during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping at Al-Yamama Palace here on Tuesday evening, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Prior to the ceremony of signing as many as 14 deals between the two countries, King Salman and Xi held talks that covered the entire gamut of bilateral relations and the ways to further strengthen cooperation.
The leaders also discussed the latest developments at the regional and global arenas.
At the outset of the meeting, King Salman delivered a speech in which he welcomed President Xi and the accompanying delegation, describing the friendly relations between the two countries as witnessing a steady growth during the past 25 years.
“I recall my visit to your friendly country in March 2014, during which, we held fruitful meetings that were reflected on joint cooperation in various fields. Your Excellency’s visit today enhances this cooperation and friendship between the two countries and peoples,” the King said. “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and China are striving together for stability and promoting peace and security in the world. We appreciate Your Excellency’s efforts in this regard,” he said.
The King underlined the need for joint efforts of the international community to counter the challenges -- especially terrorism -- facing the world. “The international community should emphasize the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, the foremost of which is the non-interference in the internal affairs of states as well as the respect of their sovereignty so that security and peace prevail among the states. I am confident that our discussions today will not only be in the interest of our two countries, but also will enhance efforts being made to bring peace to the region,” the King added.
On his part, the Chinese President Xi expressed over his visit to the Kingdom and meeting the King.
He also thanked for the warm reception and hospitality, being accorded to him and the accompanying delegation. Xi emphasized China’s keenness on strengthening the partnership between the two countries in addition to continue boosting bilateral relations. He also commended the measures taken by King Salman to spur the Kingdom’s growth.
