RIYADH — Fourteen Poets from different parts of India captivated the audience here with their recitation at annual Mushaira 2016 (poetry session), which was conducted by the Indian Embassy in Riyadh.
Akthar Gawaliori, Shakeel Azmi, Malikzada Javed and Hina Taimoori stole the show as audience applauded them repeatedly, and were asked repeat several couplets that struck a chord with the audience or were metaphorically unique.
A large gathering of around 1,000 aficionados filled the auditorium of International Indian School Riyadh and were regaled by the poets with a variety of fare that was evidently something that they had waited for.
Charge d’Affaires, Hemant Kotalwar opened the mushaiara with the traditional lighting of the candle. In his address, he told the audience that this poetic festival not only empowers us with a message but it also provides a festive occasion for the community.
The mushaira was conducted at a short notice but still the choice, selection and vocal audience made this annual festival a grand success. Akthar Gawaliori was the most successful poet and he impressed the audience to an extent that they demanded him continue to recite new presentation and repeat some old ones. When he finished his couplets the audience gave him a standing ovation.
Tarannum Riyaz presided over the mushaira, Shakeel Jamali conducted the proceedings and Aqeel Nomani started with a Nashid.
Hifzur Rahman, second secretary Indian Embassy, gave the welcome address. He lauded the poets of using their medium to impart knowledge and social messages. He also presented gifts to the poets.

Akthar Gawaliori mesmerized the audience with his famous couplets
“Dil say tera khayal niklnay nahi deya hamnay saf saf ko dalnay nahi diya khushboo sharab zulf ghata dhoop chandni mausam hai kausa jo ghazal nahi diya”
Suhail Lucknowi touched on the reality of life and said in his couplets.
“Mera jurm itna hai kay such bolta hoon
Mera haq mai koi adalat nahi hai”
“Suna hai amero say dosti kar le
Tabha tum nay samjo zindagi karli”
Tarannum Riyaz recited the following couplets
“Main dard jaagti hoon, zaqm sooti hoon,
Na hang jisko nigal jaye aisa moti hoon meri dua main meri mujozoon ki taseerien, Naseeb khooj ne wali main kaun hoti hoon?”
Mehshar Afridi recited the following couplets.
“Tere qatha nahi tu ghussa may aagaya
Paisa ka zaam tha tere lahja may aagaya”
“Sikka uchaal kar kay tere pass kya raha
Tera gharoor tu mere kaasa mai aagaya”
“Woh chahta hai hundustan chood day hum
Batao bhooth kay daar say makan chod day hum”
Afzal Manglori presented the following couplets
“Marsham nadamatao ka yaha lag chuka bohat
Yeh zaqm o bahisi tuje baar jana chahay”
“Mor sharmaya tere chal say chalkay agay
Kya ha nagin bhi teri zulf kay agay”
“Taj ko chod kay sab tere he surat dekhay
Baait jai tu agar taj mahal kay agay”
Malikzada Javed enthralled Urdu lovers with his popular ghazals and couplets
“Khuda buzurgo ko ta umr khud kafeel rakhay
Warna khoon kay rishtay rulanay lag tay hai”
“Naye ameero ka ghar bhool kar bhi maat jana
Har ek cheez ke kimat batanay lag jatay hai”
“Apnay bacho pay kyun karo ghussa
Har kami mujmay khandani hai”
“Tumko acha kahay agar dunia
Yeh bura waqt ke nichani hai”
“Watan ko chod kar hargiz na jana
Mohajir aank mein chup ta bohat hai”
Nusrat Mehdi recited the couplets
“Ishq mein majnu farhad nahi hone kay
Yeh naye log bhi barbaad nahi hone kay”
Mai kya karun k tere ana ko miley sakun
Ghir jaoon toot jaaon bikhar jaaon kya karun”
Nadeem Siddqui presented the couplets
“Sumsan jazeero mein hum log mukyad hai iss par bhi pani hai uspar bhi pani hai”
“Iss daur ka bhai bhi yousuf ka brother hai
Iss waqt toh mat pucho aab khoon bhi pani hai”
“Saron kee sailab par lakti huwi lash hai
Yeh dur kay insan kay itni hi khani hai”
Alam Kursheed presented his couplets
“Ek hone nahi daati hay siasat hame
Hum bhi dewar par dewar uthaye huwa hain”
“Apkay paani may nazar atey hai surkhi kaisi
Bahtay darya mi koi cheez mila de gaye hai”
Shakeel Azmi recitied his couplets
“Aasmano se zameeno ko giraney waley
Jhootay hotey hain ye taqdeer bataney waley”
Tu nahi dil may magar tera nishan baqi hai
Dil laganay ko abhi sara jahan baqi hai”
“Har ghadi chashm e khareedar may rehnay kay liye
Kuch hunar chahaye bazar may rahna ka liye”
“Aap toh badnami say shurat ka woh rista hay kai log nagay hogatay hai akhbar may rahna ka liye”
“Waqt nay tujko nawaz hai magar waqt say darr badshao say bhi taawan liya jata hai”
