NEW YORK — Kyle Okposo scored a hat trick Sunday afternoon as the New York Islanders routed the Edmonton Oilers 8-1 at Barclays Center Sunday. Five other players — Johnny Boychuk, John Tavares, Nikolay Kulemin, Josh Bailey and Cal Clutterbuck — all scored a goal apiece for the Islanders. The eight goals were the most for New York since it beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 9-3 on Feb. 11, 2011. Islanders goalie Thomas Greiss made 30 saves. Canadiens 2, Hurricanes 1 (SO): Sven Andrighetto scored the shootout winner to give Montreal a win over Carolina at the Bell Centre. Jeff Skinner scored in regulation for the Hurricanes and Max Pacioretty replied for the Canadiens. Ben Scrivens, making his second start in as many days, stopped 34 shots for Montreal. Counterpart Cam Ward made 33 saves for the Hurricanes. Capitals 3, Flyers 2: Matt Niskanen went coast-to-coast for the go-ahead goal, Alex Ovechkin notched his 30th of the season and Washington defeated Philadelphia for its third straight win. Dmitry Orlov also scored for the Capitals and Braden Holtby stopped 33 shots. Nick Shultz and Michael Del Zotto scored for the Flyers and Steve Mason made 27 saves. Bruins goalie suffers fractured larynx Boston Bruins goaltender Malcolm Subban suffered a fractured larynx when struck in the throat by a puck in a pre-game warmup, the National Hockey League club announced Sunday. The 22-year-old younger brother of Montreal Canadiens All-Star defenseman P.K. Subban was injured before a Saturday game in Portland, Maine, involving the Bruins top developmental team, the Providence Bruins. Subban spent the night at Maine Medical Center before being moved Sunday to Mass General Hospital in Boston for further evaluation. “He is in stable condition and will be sidelined indefinitely,” the NHL club said in a statement. Subban, a loser last season in his only NHL start, suffered the injury after having served a backup stint behind Boston’s Tuukka Rask in NHL games earlier in the week. — Agencies
