NEW YORK — Cal Clutterbuck’s goal with 1:38 left in the third period capped a stunning late comeback by the New York Islanders, who scored three goals in the final 7:10 Monday night to beat the Florida Panthers 3-2 at Barclays Center.
The Islanders, who were limited to just 11 shots in the first two periods, tied the game during a dramatic 81-second span late in the third in which Kyle Okposo fired a shot past goalie Roberto Luongo and Josh Bailey tucked a redirected shot into the open right corner of the net.
Kings 5, Blackhawks 0: Goaltender Jonathan Quick stopped all 32 shots he faced, and the Los Angeles Kings cruised to a 5-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.
Kris Versteeg, Milan Lucic and Vincent Lecavalier were among five players to score for the Kings. Los Angeles (41-22-5) improved to 20-11-3 on the road and earned at least one point for the fifth time in the past six games.
Predators 3, Oilers 2: James Neal put the Nashville Predators on his back Monday night.
The Predators left-winger’s hat trick propelled the Preds to a 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers. Neal’s third goal, a wicked wrist shot over the shoulder of Oilers goalie Laurent Brossoit at 4:17 of the third period, broke a 2-2 tie.
Flames 7, Blues 4: Michael Frolik scored three goals and the Calgary Flames ended a St. Louis Blues winning streak at six games with a 7-4 victory.
It was the first win for Calgary (29-35-5) against St. Louis (41-21-9) in seven contests and prevented their visitors from taking over top spot in the Western Conference’s Central Division.
Jets 5, Canucks 2: Marko Dano scored twice and added an assist as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-2.
Tyler Myers had a goal and assist for Winnipeg (29-35-5). Alex Burmistrov and Mark Scheifele also scored while Mathieu Perreault had two assists for the Jets, who have won two straight games but are 2-4-1 in their last seven road games.
Ducks 7, Devils 1: Jakob Silfverberg had three goals and an assist, leading the Anaheim Ducks to a 7-1 rout of the New Jersey Devils at the Honda Center.
Silfverberg accomplished the first hat trick and the first four-point game of his career. Linemates Ryan Kesler and Andrew Cogliano each contributed a goal and two assists.
NHL adding cameras
The NHL will put cameras on the blue lines beginning in the playoffs to aid officials on offside calls when games matter most.
The decision was announced Monday, the first day of meetings among the league’s general managers. Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell says the tweak should lead to more consistency and give officials another angle to review if an offside call is challenged following a goal.
“That’s the one in-season tweak we can make,” Campbell said. “It’s not a rule change, it’s just helping make the process better.”
The coach’s challenge was added as a video-replay option along with the change to 3-on-3 overtime last year. While the success of the new overtime format has been well documented, the coach’s challenge has drawn more criticism for the lengthy delays of the video reviews and for the inconclusive results. Only 55 of 216 coach’s challenges were overturned through the first 1,029 games. — Agencies
