ALBAIK, Saudi Arabia’s leading quick service chicken and seafood restaurant chain, switched off its lights between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on March 19 to mark Earth Hour along with more than 7,000 cities all over the world, in an effort to change climate change.
All non-essential lighting was switched off at all ALBAIK branches across the Kingdom, to show its support for the wellbeing of the planet and as a part of it’s annual pledge to the environment.
Eng. Rami Abu Ghazaleh, CEO of ALBAIK Food Systems, said ALBAIK’s participation in this global event reaffirms its commitment to environmental responsibility and the conservation of national resources for future generations.
He emphasized the importance of minimizing the effect of human activity on the Earth’s climate, and the imperative need to rationalize energy consumption.
Eng. Rami further said: “We have been participating in Earth Hour since 2010 in order to create awareness of energy efficiency and the rationalization of every form of consumption, be it of electrical power, water or any other basic resource that is indispensable for sustaining our daily lives, so as to guarantee the longevity of these resources for the betterment of our planet and the lives of humankind.”
Saudi Arabia is participating in Earth Hour as one of 178 countries where the lights were switched off at some of the world’s most iconic landmarks, including those in the Kingdom’s three major cities, Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, as well as at a number of the Kingdom’s government and corporate buildings.
The annual event aims to get millions people around the world to actively help cut greenhouse emissions and reduce the footprint that human activity leaves on the environment.
As a prominent national company, ALBAIK is fully committed to social responsibility towards the community and is renowned for its educational and social programs that aim to spread knowledge and encourage innovation among young Saudis. — SG
