ResizeOAKLAND — The Golden State Warriors took advantage of a short-handed Dallas Mavericks squad to record a 52nd consecutive home-court victory, riding another record-setting 3-point-shooting performance to a hard-earned 128-120 win.
On a night when the Warriors presented Mavericks power forward David Lee his championship ring, Golden State set an NBA record for most 3-pointers in a season by connecting on 21 in 45 attempts.
The 17th of the 21 came with 9:51 to go in the game and was Golden State’s 934th of the season, allowing them to surpass the previous record set by the Houston Rockets last season.
Klay Thompson bombed in nine 3-pointers on a 40-point night and backcourt sidekick Stephen Curry nailed five 3’s to account for almost half his 33 points, helping Golden State (65-7) remain four games ahead of the San Antonio Spurs (61-11) for top seeding in the Western Conference playoffs.
The Warriors already have clinched the home-court advantage in the NBA Finals should they get that far for a second consecutive year.
Lee, who helped the Warriors win their first championship since 1975 last season before getting dealt to the Boston Celtics over the summer, had 12 points, nine rebounds and a team-high six assists in his first return as an opponent this season.
The loss dropped the Mavericks (35-37) behind the Houston Rockets (36-37), who won Friday night, and into a tie with the Utah Jazz (35-37) for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.
Draymond Green complemented the Warriors’ guard-heavy output with 19 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. Harrison Barnes made it four Warriors in double figures with 11 points.
Wesley Matthews paced a balance Dallas attack with 26 points, which included six 3-pointers.
Rockets 112, Raptors 109: James Harden posted his third triple-double of the season and the Houston Rockets turned a fourth-quarter run into a 112-109 win over the Toronto Raptors.
Harden finished with 32 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists, his sixth game with at least 10 assists in his last 11 starts.
Pistons 112, Hornets 105: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half and the Detroit Pistons extended their winning streak to five games by holding off the Charlotte Hornets 112-105.
Caldwell-Pope, who missed Detroit’s previous game with an illness, also contributed seven rebounds and four assists.
Timberwolves 132, Wizards 129 (double OT): Karl-Anthony Towns had 27 points and 10 rebounds, and Gorgui Dieng sank the game-winning jumper with 30 seconds left in the second overtime as the Minnesota Timberwolves hampered the Washington Wizards’ playoff hopes with a 132-129 victory.
Zach LaVine had 25 points for the Timberwolves (24-48), who trailed late in regulation and both overtime periods. Down 129-124 with 1:55 remaining, Minnesota scored the final eight points.
Hawks 101, Bucks 90: Jeff Teague scored eight straight points in one minute during the fourth quarter, helping the cold-shooting Atlanta Hawks fight off the Milwaukee Bucks 101-90.
The Hawks connected on just 5 of 32 3-point attempts but found a way to pick up their seventh win in the last eight games.
Heat 108, Magic 97: Hassan Whiteside came off the bench to provide 26 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks as the Miami Heat defeated the Orlando Magic 108-97.
Whiteside, who made 10 of 15 shots from the floor and 6 of 7 at the foul line, extended his career high with his 35th double-double. He also had seven dunks, and the 26 points matched his career best.
Spurs 110, Grizzlies 104: LaMarcus Aldridge had 32 points and 12 rebounds as the short-handed San Antonio Spurs played just well enough to shrug off the Memphis Grizzlies 110-104 to remain undefeated at home.
The Spurs led 98-92 and were struggling to put away the Grizzlies until Manu Ginobili hit a 3-pointer from the corner with 3:22 remaining to provide some breathing room.
Other results: Kings 116, Suns 94; Nuggets 116, Lakers 105.
