RIYADH — A paper factory in Al-Sali District of eastern Riyadh was set afire on Saturday. Riyadh Civil Defense spokesman Capt. Mohammad Al-Hammady said the firefighters extinguished the fire, which was caused due to the extreme weather conditions and strong winds. He said paper being recycled in the factory caught fire, but the firemen prevented it from spreading to neighboring establishments.


Five killed in highway accident

MADINAH/RIYADH — Five people died in a road accident on Madinah-Yanbu Royal Commission Highway. Madinah Red Crescent spokesman Khalid Al-Sahly said a Saudi man and four Asian expatriates after two vehicles collided.

Meanwhile, a woman died and five other people were injured in a road accident in Afif governorate Saturday evening. Riyadh Red Crescent spokesman Abdullah Al-Muraibidh said the victims were members of the same family. One of the victims was in a critical condition while four others escaped with mild injuries.

Eight rescued after boat capsize

ABHA — The Border Guard rescued eight people from drowning after their cruise boat capsized. Asir Border Guard spokesman Col. Bandar Al-Mizhar said the command center received reports of nine victims stuck in the middle of the sea after their cruise boat capsized. The Border Guard formed a search party and rescued eight of the victims. The team was still searching for the ninth victim. All of the victims were Saudi.

116,668 drug pills seized at Dhiba

TABUK — The Customs Control seized a total of 116,668 illegal drug pills in a smuggling attempt. Director of Dhiba Customs Ali Al-Atawi said the officers inspecting a truck on a vessel found the illegal drugs. The Customs Control found the pills stashed at the bottom of the driver’s seat. The pills were seized and the incident was forwarded to the pertinent authorities for further procedures.

Boy playing with gun kills himself


ARAR — A boy was shot in his head and died immediately on Friday. Northern Borders Police assistant spokesman Maj. Faiz Al-Jihani said police received reports of a six-year-old boy who was shot dead. After a thorough investigation, police found out the boy was playing with his father’s gun and accidentally shot himself in the head.

Two Asians held for selling alcohol

ARAR — Police arrested two Asian expatriates for selling alcohol. Northern Borders Police assistant spokesman Maj. Faiz Al-Jihani said the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice arrested the men in Rafha governorate. Police seized 15 jugs of alcohol and various utensils used to manufacture it.
