TAIF — The Ministry of Civil Service has launched a program to upgrade the levels and standards of the government employees in all fields with a view to boosting their input, local daily Al-Madinah reported on Sunday. It said the project, named: "Performance Management" will cover seven ministries in its initial phase which are justice, social affairs, communications and information technology, foreign affairs, transport, agriculture and culture and information. The program will be applied on other government ministries at a later stage according to a well-prepared schedule. The half-yearly periodic assessment will be done when the official in charge receives the annual performance evaluation forms from the department of  human resources. In this case, the director should meet privately with the employee to discuss with him his activities during the past six months, his SWAT and if he has achieved the targeted goals or not. This process is part of the annual evaluation to check the performance of every employee during the first half of the year. The employee will have to sign his/her evaluation papers. The performance management program is aimed at improving the standard of the employees, ensuring that the employees fully understand the goals and objectives of the ministry or the department and synchronizing their activities with the final objectives of the institution. The evaluation will also cover the behavior of the employees and their relationships with their colleagues. If rated substandard, the employees may object to their evaluation with solid evidence to be forwarded to the HR director. The half-yearly evaluation is done in the sixth and seventh months of the Hijra year while the annual assessment is done in the 11th and 12th months.
