Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Directorate General of Traffic has introduced a new system to monitor traffic violations and issue tickets through mobile phones of security men. According to Makkah Arabic daily, the new system will be applied against violators who try to evade Saher cameras by concealing their car registration numbers by covering the plates with mud or tape. Under the new system, all security men — not only the traffic police — will have new applications on their mobile phones that will enable them to register the violation by picture and sound. Sources said that citizens can also help in filming traffic violations but will not be able to issue tickets as they will not be provided with the special application. The sources expected the new application and the Saher cameras to greatly reduce traffic violations in the Kingdom. They said the new system is useful in areas which do not have automatic registering of violations and also in cases where drivers avoid Saher cameras by covering their car plate numbers.
