NEW YORK — Addison Russell clubbed a three-run homer to left in the eighth inning to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over the Cincinnati Reds Monday. Russell’s first homer of the year came on the first pitch from Reds reliever Jumbo Diaz with one out and brought home second baseman Ben Zobrist and left fielder Jorge Soler. Right-hander Adam Warren (1-0) worked a scoreless eighth for the win while Hector Rondon struck out the side in the ninth for his second save as the Cubs (6-1) won their third straight. First baseman Joey Votto went 2-for-4 as the Reds (5-2) suffered their first road loss. Orioles 9, Red Sox 7: Chris Davis blasted a three-run home run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning and drove in five runs as the Baltimore Orioles spoiled the Fenway Park debuts of David Price and Craig Kimbrel with a 9-7 win over the Boston Red Sox. Davis unloaded on a 0-1 knuckle-curve from Kimbrel and deposited it into the center-field bleachers after Caleb Joseph and Manny Machado walked to snap the 6-6 tie. Padres 4, Phillies 3: Alexi Amarista drove in the go-ahead run with a seventh-inning squeeze bunt and Wil Myers homered as the San Diego beat Philadelphia, the Padres’ third victory in four games. Jon Jay added an RBI double for San Diego, now 3-4 after going scoreless in its first three games of the season. Pirates 7, Tigers 4: Jonathon Niese checked Detroit on five hits over six innings while Matt Joyce, getting a chance to start because of the American League’s designated hitter rule, keyed two early rallies with a single plus a double to spark Pittsburgh. Niese gave up a pair of solo home runs to J.D. Martinez and Nick Castellanos. Cardinals 10, Brewers 1: St. Louis rapped out 19 hits, a club record for a home opener, and had a 9-0 lead before the end of the third inning. Rookie Jeremy Hazelbaker led the onslaught, going 4-for-4 with a sacrifice fly, a double and a triple. Yadier Molina collected three hits, two RBIs and a rare stolen base, while Aledmys Diaz bagged three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI. White Sox 4, Twins 1: Jose Quintana pitched six innings of one-run ball as Chicago spoiled Minnesota’s Opening Day at Target Field and keep the Twins winless. Melky Cabrera, Brett Lawrie and Todd Frazier each had a pair of hits and Austin Jackson drove in a pair of runs to pace the White Sox on offensive. Nationals 6, Braves 4: Wilson Ramos tied a career high with four hits and also drove in two runs and Daniel Murphy added two hits, including a two-run homer in the first, as the Washington Nationals beat the Atlanta Braves 6-4 on a night that both starting pitchers were hit hard. It was the first four-hit game for Ramos since Sept. 15, 2013 against the Philadelphia Phillies. Ramos had a two-out single in the seventh to drive in a run and give the Nationals a 6-4 advantage. In other games it was: Marlins 10, Mets 3; Astros 8, Royals 2; Rangers 7, Mariners 3; Angels 4, Athletics 1.
