A spark that started during the harvest of dates in a farm in Al-Jadeeda village in Madinah region started a fire. Teams from the Civil Defense arrived at the location and battled the fire before it spread to the rest of the farm. The fire destroyed 12 date palms. — Okaz photo


Two men rescued
from tar hole

RIYADH — Two men fell into a tar hole near Khuzam Station on Sunday. Riyadh Red Crescent spokesman Abdullah Al-Muraibidh said they received reports of an expatriate shepherd who fell into a hole of tar. Paramedics rushed to the scene and found another Saudi man inside the hole who had tried to save the shepherd but fell in with him. The two men were hauled out of the hole and were given medical treatment on the spot. The men suffered mild injuries and are recovering.

Smoke creates
panic in hospital

JAZAN — King Fahd Hospital reported smoke coming out of one of its buildings on Sunday. Capt. Yahya Al-Qahtani from Jazan Civil Defense said they received reports from the hospital about smoke coming out of one of its buildings. When Civil Defense arrived and entered the building they found one of the air conditioners had a fault and was the source of the smoke. The maintenance team came in to check on the air conditioner and the ventilation system. After the smoke was cleared, the Civil Defense reassured the panicked hospital staff that the building was safe again.

Fire in wheat farm
destroys crops

MADINAH — A wheat farm caught on fire on Sunday, destroying a large portion of the crop. Madinah Civil Defense representative Col. Khalid Al-Jehani said they received reports of a fire at a wheat farming project in Al-Dhilai’ah village. The fire caused damage to 900 square meters of crops. The Civil Defense managed to extinguish the fire and there were no injuries recorded. The fire is suspected to have started while the workers were reaping the crops.

Man treated for
smoke inhalation

MADINAH — A man suffered from smoke inhalation in a fire on Sunday. Madinah Civil Defense representative Col. Khalid Al-Jehani said they received reports of a fire in an apartment in a residential building. After arriving on the scene, the Civil Defense found that the fire was only in one room and managed to extinguish the fire before it spread to other rooms in the apartment. The Civil Defense found one man in the room unconscious after suffering from smoke inhalation. He was taken to hospital by the paramedics for medical treatment.
