Badea Abu Al-Naja Saudi Gazette IN less than two years, the Gold Saudi Motorbike Team managed to participate in various sporting events in the Kingdom, the Gulf, the Middle East and the world at large. The majority of the team members hold high positions in the government and private sector. The team comprises an engineer, a pilot, the department head of a public hospital and the deputy director of the Two Holy Mosques Museum, to name but a few. -8 Nawaf Oraif, the leader of the team, said the team was formed in 2015 with a view to improving and developing bike riding as a sport and enhancing the value of safe driving at the public level. The team, named B40Bike, was accredited by the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation in the same year. One of the conditions to join the team is to be over 25 years, Oraif explained. -3 “We have participated in 20 events in the Gulf region, eight events in Egypt, Morocco and Jordan, and one event in the United States. We are preparing for an event that will take place in Europe this year,” he said. Oraif denied reports that claimed the B40Bike members were arrested recently by traffic police for disturbing public order. He said traffic cops and other policemen at checkpoints treat the team members with respect because all members follow the traffic and safety rules. -4 Expensive bikes The team members ride Goldwing motorbikes, which costs SR127,000; Harley Davidson with price tag ranging from SR50,000 to SR200,000; Spider, which is priced at SR100,000; Cruize (SR64,000), and quad bikes that cost SR40,000 to SR50,000. Saudi Gazette joined the team during a trip from Makkah to Al-Hada and back to Makkah, which took a few hours. Al-Hada Road is known for dangerous curves; however, the team members rode the curves professionally and with much ease, which proves that they are professional riders. -7 Throughout the trip all the riders were traveling in an organized manner. The members used various hand signs to indicate different actions. For example, if one of the riders had a problem or malfunction, he has to use a certain sign to indicate the type of problem. The rider at the front and the one at back carry walkie-talkies with them to ensure that all team members travel in tandem. -2
