MAKKAH – A total of 570 Umrah pilgrims from different nationalities were evacuated following a fire at a hotel in Makkah. One disabled occupant of the hotel was hurt in the mishap on Monday and his condition is stable now, according to Maj. Naif Al-Sharif, spokesman of the General Department of Civil Defense in Makkah, the Saudi Press Agency reported.


He said the Civil Defense operations center received information about the fire in a hotel on Ibrahim Al-Khalil Street and soon the fire units rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire that broke out on seventh floor of the 14-storey hotel building.

Al-Sharif said an investigation is underway to identify the causes of the fire.
