ResizeThe Ministry of Justice unveiled plans to set up an alimony fund as part of the National Transformation Program (NTP). The fund will spend money to meet the expenses of a woman and her children during the period in which the court examines her divorce suit. The money shall be refunded to the fund by her spouse in case divorce is approved by the court. The fund will continue its support to the woman and her children after the court approves the divorce if the husband’s insolvency is proved and is unable to pay alimony. The fund is aimed at ensuring a decent living for divorcees and their children. According to a study carried out by the ministry, the number of alimony cases registered in the courts over the past four years reached 51,835. — Badea Abu Al-Naja
