ResizeBURAIDAH — The Vision Impairment Welfare Society in Qassim has started constructing special passages to take blind people from their homes to the mosques and back.
Quoting the society's executive director Khaled Al-Mishaiqeeh, Makkah daily said on Tuesday that the first phase of the project consisted of constructing passages to eight mosques benefiting 14 blind people in their neighborhoods.
"This project is the first of its kind in the Kingdom and is being implemented with the cooperation of the local municipality," he said.
He explained that the passages are in the form of lines, which the blind will be able to recognize easily either with the help of a stick or by their feet while going to or coming back from mosques.
Mishaiqeeh said the first phase of the project is expected to be completed within two weeks.
He said about 40 mosques in the city will be connected by the special passages for the blinds.
