WASHINGTON — The Saudi Embassy in Washington on Wednesday issued a statement denying media reports that indicated that the Coalition for the Defense of Legitimacy in Yemen has imposed restrictions on the import of dialysis machines to Yemen. The embassy reiterated that there are no restrictions whatsoever on dispatching humanitarian aid to Yemen, including medical equipment. The inspection mechanisms are aimed at preventing smuggling of weapons into Yemen and these measures do not hinder the entry of humanitarian supplies, the statement said. It pointed out that the coalition is the largest donor of humanitarian assistance to Yemen, including medicines and medical equipment. “Saudi Arabia alone has provided humanitarian assistance amounting to more than $500 million, making it one of the largest aid donors to Yemen,” the statement added.
