JEDDAH — The stage is set to roll on this year’s Summer Tennis Tournament, organized and managed by the Samahang Pinoy Tennis Club (SPTC) of Jeddah, at the sports complex of King Abdulaziz University Friday.
SPTC has set its main objective for this tournament with a special motto “Beat the Heat” with the registration of 38 players. The participants are grouped into Team White and Team Black. Each of the 2 teams will be composed of 1 doubles in players’ Category Legend, another 1 doubles in Category B2+, 3 doubles in CategoryB2, 4 doubles in C Category, and 1 more player in Category C singles.
Marlon Pagsanjan is the captain of Team White and Waymor Carmelotes leads Team Black in a three complete team matches that require separate match-ups for each of the 5 categories with one set, or category match-up which will be played in 6 standard games to end at sudden-death after scoring the second deuce. In every complete match-up, the team that wins 3 of the 5 sets shall win the corresponding match (out of 3). Ultimately, under the tournament rules, the team that wins 2 of the 3 complete group matches shall win the tournament.
Ariel Domingo, the club’s chairman, leads the organizing team with Waymor Carmelotes as tournament director. The supporting cast include: Roy Timtiman (club vice chairman for internal affairs), Jun Tomas (vice chairman for membership development), Mario Betorio (vice chairman for external affairs), Nasser Cayquep (secretary), JM Bravo (treasurer), Gilbert Gochuico (auditor), Mashur Jamiri (press relation director) and Vic Rebong (business manager). The technical committee is composed of Oca Lovitos (committee chairman), Nilo Gamba, Zaldy Gabriel, Eman Usman, Fernan Roxas, and Yusuf Adriatico
