JEDDAH — Well-known literary society Majlis-e-Ilm-o-Adab organized an evening with Dr. Khurshid Rizvi, a famous Pakistani scholar, poet, linguist, and historian of Arabic languages and literature at the residence of its founder head Muhammad Mujahid Syed recently.
In his address Dr. Rizvi said that poets and writers raised in Jeddah are very talented and their works reflect the great future of Urdu language and poetry. I am pleased to see that this type of gathering are playing an important role in bringing together the people from Indo-Pak subcontinent in coordination with the literarily societies.
He stressed on poets and writers to keep lighting the candle of Urdu language and poetry across the region.
He thanked Dr. Syed Sameeh Ahmed, Mujahid Syed and members of Majlis-e-Ilm-o-Adab for organizing such a beautiful evening in his honor.
Chief guest Dr. Sameeh Ahmed said, “We are lucky that we have one of the most exalted poet, renowned researcher and writer for a evening at our request. We thank him for taking time out after performing Umrah and visit Madinah to share with us his knowledge.”
Mujahid Syed expressed his gratitude to Dr. Khursheed Rizvi. He also highlighted the activities and objectives of the organization.
He said, “Majlis Ilm-o-Adab is severing Urdu language in Saudi Arabia since 1985. We have been organizing literary concerts, opening ceremony of books for many writers and poets. We hold educational activities and weekly lectures on the teachings of the noble Qur'an, which is its special identity.”
He thanked Dr. Rizvi, Ather Abbasi, Mehtab Qader, other poets, writers, media persons and audience for attending the function.
Earlier the function started with recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an by Qari Mohammed Mujeebullah. Qaseedah Burdah Sharif recited by four young children Syed Mohammed, Syed Mustafa , Syed Mubasher and Syed Moazam. Naats of Dr. Khursheed were presented by Mohammed Jamil and Mohammed Nawaz Junjua.
Tashfeen Syed Mohammed conducted the proceedings of first session. The second session started after the glittering dinner under the patronship of Dr. Rizvi.
Well-known local poet and anchor person Nasir Burni begin the second poetry session. Prominent local poets Kamran Khan (Makkah), Altaf Shehryar, Sajjad Bukhari, Adul Rahim Shad Bajnori (Bahrah), Afsar Barabunkawi, Mohammed Iqbal Belen, Faisal Tufail, Shahzad Azam, Mohsin Alvi, Mehtab Qader, Mujahid Syed, Ather Abbasi and Naeem Hamid Ali Al-Hamid presented glorious couplets and regaled the poetry lovers.
Dr. Khursheed Rizvi rounded off the evening with a rendition of his poetries and ghazal.
