JEDDAH — A Saudi court on Monday again heard the case of Rigo, the Filipino driver who has been charged with reckless driving, killing four people and injuring others.
A source said Rigo was responsible for a horrific road accident eight years ago.
“Rigo took a bus full of people and drove recklessly in the opposite direction of Al-Haramain Highway and crashed into several vehicles and killed an entire family of three. He was initially sentenced to death but his sentence was appealed after his lawyers proved that he suffers from a mental condition,” the source said.
According to the source, Rigo had also killed a Bangladeshi man.
“He was initially sentenced to death and was required to pay SR250,000 as compensation for the damage caused. The sentence was repealed and the court will reopen the case under the death penalties department,” they said.
Mohammad Al-Qarni, who lost his wife, son and daughter in the accident, called for the death sentence.
“I don’t believe the medical report the lawyers have given to court. The driver killed my wife and two children. The bus collided with the car my wife and children were in. My son was driving and my wife and daughter were in the backseat when the accident happened,” he said.
