SAGCO Basketball Cup begins Friday

By K.M.A. Perera JEDDAH — SAGCO Basketball Cup Invitational will begin Friday (Sept. 30) with the participation of 24 teams representing companies based in Jeddah. The Saudi Arabian Glass Company (SAGCO) is organizing the tournament. Several organizations, including Arrow Juice Factory, STTB Travels and NCMS Catering are expected to sponsor cash and kind gifts. SAGCO Basketball Patron Nico De Wet said the tournament has expanded in a short span of time and winners will bag lucrative awards. Stressing the popularity of the tournament, he said more than 30 companies had expressed willingness to take part in the event this year. “The whole event has become a part of SAGCO’s social responsibility toward the community and neighborhood in sports and welfare,” he added. He also thanked the Saudi Gazette for being the media sponsor for the fifth straight time. The tournament will run till Dec. 23. SAGCO management and a number of distinguished guests are expected to attend the opening of the tournament that will begin with a team parade, followed by awards for best uniform and muse. Two first round games will also be played on day one. The teams which have joined in the tournament are: Saudi Glass A, Saudi Glass B, Sunbullah, Technoglass, Caravan, Delta, Al-Yanabie, Tetrapak, Medina Transporter, Al-Yamamah, Pinehill, Bakemate, BRC, Almunajem, Jeddah Cable, Jeddah Steel, Neproplast, Salem Husni, Fuji, PSF, Aquat Food, Afia, Wasallak and Arrow Juice. SAGCO Tournament Committee invites all basketball fans to come and see the action at SAGCO basketball court in Sinaiya (Industrial area) on weekends.
