ResizeJEDDAH — Saudi Cricket Centre (SCC), which has been elevated as the 39th associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in June, has formed Western Province Softball Cricket Association (WPSCA) recently in an effort to bring all softball cricket-playing clubs and associations under one umbrella and bring more and more Saudi youngsters into the game of cricket.
As hardball cricket is so popular among expatriates, a lot of softball cricket is also played in Jeddah and its tournaments are becoming a big hit in the city.
Therefore, the venture would help tap talented cricketers from this field and by providing proper training they could become international cricketers soon.
The WPSCA will function under the aegis of SCC.
SCC, official board for cricket in the Kingdom, will be supervising closely the tournaments and events organized by WPSCA. Mohammed Faseesh of Tellicherry Cricket Forum (TCF) has been elected as the first president of WPSCA. TCF has made its mark in Jeddah by successfully organizing softball cricket tournaments for the last five years.
The other members of WPSCA are: Ali Mohammed Khan (Jeddah Champions Trophy, JCT), Syed Hashmath (Jeddah Premier League, JPL) and Mohammed Sami Khan (Corporate Cricket League, CCL).
Sadequl Islam will be the co-ordinator between SCC and WPSCA. SCC also plans to provide technical support to WPSCA for online scoring, players registration system, umpiring and conducting coaching courses.
