RUSSIAN President Vladimir Putin is an iconic and a heroic figure for some Arab politicians. This seems understandable as they see him as the one who stands up to the Western imperialism. But today, Putin has also been an exemplary leader in the hearts of American rightists — an issue that is questionable and that needs clarification.
There are growing voices in the American political community and within a certain hard-line wing that glorifies and salutes the “struggle” and “policies” of Putin for his ideology and considers him as an ideal leader for the protection of “prestige” of the white man and combating anti-Christians and the decline in Christianity.
This was the explicit opinion of Mathew Heimbach, founder of the Traditionalist Worker Party, an extreme right-wing movement in the United States of America. This statement was also expressed in a harmonious tone by President-elect Donald Trump during his US presidential election campaign. He made the remark on more than one occasion during his election campaign and surprised the Americans, but it turned out that he was addressing “something” inside the Americans’ conscience.
Putin does not hide his feelings and policies which urge rise of patriotism in his country and his country’s allies, a mild word to deal the systematic, racist, discriminatory and exclusionary policies “non-consistent” with the principles of his country.
Of course, this admiration for Russian President Putin is not confined to America alone, but it is present in more than one location in the European continent. It is no secret about Russian President Putin’s close ties with the Orthodox Church as he has appeared next to the Patriarch on many occasions, a new precedent which is unusual in Russia but recommend for an important role that has become one of the landmarks of the new appearance and shape of Russian politics that is molded and exported to the world.
The position of Russia demands the protection of minorities specifically to protect the dimension of the church in Syria, the historical importance of the relationship between the two churches in Russia and Syria. As well as the adoption of the Russian government and its progressive stand against gay marriage rights, the principles adopted by the government literally from the ideologies of Christianity.
Therefore, Putin is seen today as the protector of the “white man” and “chief defender of the Church.” Therefore, his emergence in the West is not surprising, in the US specifically, a situation described as “a knight on a white horse would come to salvage the crisis” because it signifies that “white power” is powerful on earth. These statements can only be described as fascist and racist under the guise of “patriotism” and it is promoted and supported by clear and explicit of a superpower and this is the big dilemma.
If Che Guevara was a symbol of freedom and rebellion, today touting Putin as the leader of the “white minority” and “protector of the church legacy” is exactly like what was said about Adolf Hitler!
