RIYADH — Students of King Saud University earned glory for their Japanese Language Department by winning awards in different categories at the 9th Japanese Language Speech Contest at the ambassador’s residence here, recently. The Japanese embassy, in cooperation with Ministry of Culture and Information, organized the event wherein 11 competitive participants gathered from all over the Kingdom and they delivered speech on the themes: “"Introducing the Best Things about Saudi Arabia to Japanese People” or “the Reasons Why I Study Japanese.” KSU's Abdullah Hassan Al-Qarni, first prize winner of Standard Level Group, passionately described family life in traditional spacious houses in Saudi Arabia, from the viewpoint of its culture of hospitality. Yousif Adel AlJomaih stressed the importance of motherhood in Saudi family and expressed how he respects his mother as his parents do to theirs: the eloquence with accurate knowledge of Japanese grammar brought him the first prize in the Advanced Section. The Charge d’Affaires of the embassy, Setsuo Ohmori, expressed his delightful surprise at the quality of speech, including of those who learnt the language only through self-study, and extolled steady efforts of all the learners in Saudi Arabia. One of Japanese judges was very appreciative of the fluency and rich vocabulary used by the students.
