CHILDREN of the alumni of Jamia Millia Islamia recently displayed their oratory prowess and other skills. The occasion was the commemoration of the 96th Foundation Day of the New Delhi-based premier institution by Jamia Millia Islamia Alumni Association — Western Region. The sole idea and theme of the event was to enhance the oratory skills of children and build in self-confidence and remove stage fear. The layout of the program allowed children of all age groups to easily participate. It started off with competitive games that let the spirit soar with enjoyment and participation. It included one-minute games like segregating different colors and stacking cups to make a pyramid. All the children were eager to participate and waited anxiously. Even the two and three year olds were willing to try their hand. These games were efficiently organized by Mrs. Meher Naseem and illuminating little gifts were presented to the cheerful children. Spontaneous answers, quick guesses and time taking thoughts, all added to the fun. It was initiated with the Islamic quiz that included questions about the Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad (may peace be upon him) and identification of the Surahs of the Holy Book. Master Khalid Muhammad Zaki was the star of the show as he answered most of the questions effortlessly. It was followed by general knowledge quiz that covered topics of science, geography, history and current affairs. It was an energetic event which made one experience bouts of laughters at some of the prompt replies. The event moved on towards a display of individual talent that truly brought forth oratory skills and eloquence. It started with recitation of Surah Al-Kawthar with translation by Fahad Ahmad Syed. Surah Al Bayyina was beautifully recited by Yusuf Iqbal. The speech delivery was a display of skills and variety in topics. Azka Afzal Khan spoke eloquently on ‘Save Trees’.
