JEDDAH - Moaid Al-Taib captured the 2016 Saudi Star Drift Championship crown after topping the standings, following five challenging rounds, in front of a packed venue on the sides of Jeddah International Motor Show here recently.
Al-Taib was followed by Khalid Al-Zaid in the second spot with Ibrahim Al-Saloum in third.
Drivers competed in knockout heats on a closed course and were judged by how smoothly they get through the course based on line, angle and style.
Former Saudi rally ace Abdullah Bakhashab, organizer of the championship, said the championship was very tough and competitive.
While awarding the top winners, Bakhashab added: “It was really an exciting season for drifting as we saw a spike in the number of participants and the drivers’ skills.”
Abdullah Bakhshab, director of the organizing committee, Abdulaziz Jarwan, the representative of the Saudi Motor Federation, and Ahmed Al-Sabban, former Saudi rally driver, presented awards to the winners at the awarding ceremony.
The SSDC is organized by Bakhashab Trading and Marketing Services, supervised by the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation (SAMF) and sponsored by Nissan, which provided the official car, the Nissan 370Z, for each event.
