TAIF — Parents in a suburb in northern Taif are worried about the safety of their children who attend Prince Badr Elementary School because the overcrowded school lacks all safety means. Because of the large number of students enrolled, some of then even receive their lessons in the school's kitchen. In light of the difficulties experienced by their children, the parents are questioning the delay in completing the construction of a new school building. They say more than two years have passed since the date for the delivery of the new school but without any action on the part of the authorities. Fahd Saleh, a parent, expressed fears that his children might get hurt in light of its lack of safety means in the school and congested classrooms. He said the children are receiving their education in very poor conditions. Saleh called for expediting the construction of the new building for the school. The school's construction started in 1433 AH and the contractor was supposed to complete the work and deliver the project in 1436. Surprisingly, the work has not finished on schedule and Fahd is demanding an investigation into the matter. Mohammad Al-Otaibi concurred. He said children receive their education in Prince Badr Elementary in inappropriate conditions. Al-Otaibi said: "It seems that the Department of Education will not move to end the suffering of the students until a disaster happens." He called for the completion of the new building as soon as possible so that the students can study in a clean and comfortable environment. Spokesman for the Education Department of Taif Abdullah Al-Zahrani explained that work is still under way and the building is expected to be ready by the end of the first semester.
