IOE clinches maiden JCT crown

JEDDAH — Scripting a new chapter in the history of Jeddah Champions Trophy, Man of the Series Qasim redefined the meaning of consistency by guiding his team IOE to their maiden title in the prestigious tournament. Having won the man of the match awards in both the preceding matches leading up to the finals — quarterfinal and semifinal — Qasim left no stone unturned in making sure that his team finished on the winning note by smashing a quickfire 29 of 15 balls to lead his team to a score of 137 runs in their allotted 15 overs against runners up JWC. In reply, JWC, despite a good start, found the target too imposing to chase down in front of a huge crowd. Then pressure, with IOE chipping away with wickets at regular intervals, finally put paid to their hopes. Akbar scored a patient 38 but, with no support from the other end, could not do much as Zubair picked up 3 wickets for 21. He was ably supported by Tabraiz, who claimed 2 wickets for 12, as IOE claimed their maiden title winning comfortably by 38 runs. Saudi Cricket Center CEO Nadeem Nadwi presented the trophy to the champions. Anas from Kokan XI was adjudged batsman of the tournament while Tabraiz from IOE was named bowler of the tournament for their outstanding performances throughout the tourney. Team York Chargers were awarded the fairplay award for their outstanding conduct and discipline on and off the field. The tournament was organized by team Azizia Deccan in association with SCC and title sponsored by Al Miawiah, powered by Al Salem York, and co-sponsored by Aqualite, Clas, G21 Optics and Intalaka Group. Brief scores: IOE Cricketers 137/8 in 15 overs (Waqas 29, Qasim 29, Kabeer 3/35, Danny 2/17) beat Jeddah Warriors Cricket Club 99/9 in 15 overs (Akbar 38, Riyaz 16, Zubair 3/21, Tabraiz 2/12)
