ResizeDAMMAM – Taiba, located west of Dammam, is one of the modern residential districts in the Eastern Province but it requires infrastructure facilities, drinking water supply, sewage network, paved roads and
construction of pathways along roads for the welfare of its people.
Turki Al-Qahtani spoke about lack of sidewalks in Taiba. “Huge trucks park along the streets, violating traffic rules, and obstruct smooth movement of people,” he told Al-Yaum Arabic daily. Sewage water that comes out of some shops is another major issue, he added.
Abdullah Al-Amri spoke about other problems. “Stray dogs and disease-carrying mosquitoes threaten people of the district,” he said and urged the municipality to spray insecticides regularly to kill mosquitoes and flies and ensure cleanliness.
Al-Amri asked authorities to prevent contractors from dumping construction waste in the district. “Waste dumping has tarnished Taiba’s image,” he added.
Ayed Saad Al-Otaibi urged the municipality to keep a close watch on restaurants in the district and construct a road to Fakheriya from Taiba. “We expect better services from the municipality including repairing of damaged roads,” said Saleh Al-Raheeb.
Khaleel Al-Shammari called upon authorities to improve public services required for the welfare of Taiba residents. “We need supply of desalinated water to the district,” he added. He also opposed parking of huge trucks and abandoning of damaged cars along Taiba streets.
Yousuf Al-Motairy raised the issue of contractors throwing construction waste in open areas of the district late in the night, causing problems for residents.
Abdulhadi Al-Shammari, a member of the municipal council, commended Dammam Mayor Fahd Al-Jubeir for his efforts to remove obstacles facing Taiba’s development. “The council will stand by the demands of Taiba residents to improve municipal services,” he added.
Mohammed Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Sufyan, spokesman of Dammam municipality, spoke about his organization’s efforts to enhance infrastructure facilities and services in Taiba. “Communication services have covered 70 percent of Taiba while sewage network has covered 60 percent,” he told Al-Yaum, adding that efforts are on to cover the remaining areas.
