ResizeMAKKAH – Police arrested six people in connection with the attack of two security men in Jeddah Corniche on Tuesday. Col. Aati Al-Qurashi, spokesman of Makkah region police, told the Saudi Press Agency on Thursday that the security forces started an intensive manhunt to catch the remaining one assaulter who has been identified. All the attackers were under the ages of 18 and 28.
The spokesman said that the arrested attackers include one Saudi, three Africans and two Yemeni nationals. They are 18-year-old Saudi citizen Siddique Majed Al-Rashidi, Hussain Muhammed Abdulkarim and Hassan Ali Musa from Chad, Yaaqub Ahmad Abdul Fattah and Wajdi Nassir Ali Basabrin of Yemen, and Haroun Adam Kubar of Nigeria. The absconding attacker is Akram Broufa, a Chadian national.
Al-Qurashi said that the security men came under attack while they were patrolling in Jeddah Corniche at around 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday. When they saw a group of quad bikers involved in creating chaos and harming picnickers, they swung into action to deal with the situation. At that time, Al-Rashidi, one of the bikers, assaulted a security man by intentionally driving his quad bike over him. They also assaulted a private security guard when he tried to help the security man. The attackers then fled the scene. The two injured security men were taken to hospital.
Al-Qurashi called upon the wanted assailant to surrender himself, and warned the public against giving any shelter or help to him. He urged anyone with information about the fugitive to call (911).
In a related development, the security forces seized 130 quad bikes of various sizes from various parts of Jeddah region for committing violations over the last two days, Al-Qurashi said. The bikes were handed to the concerned authorities to complete the necessary legal procedures, he added.
