Saudi Gazette Report QATIF — Qatif Municipality confiscated unlicensed slaughterhouses located in an inappropriate environment and lacking personal and tools hygiene. The municipality also confiscated a restaurant for preparing meals in an unhealthy environment, Al-Yaum reported. Dr. Karrar Al-Faraj, the manager of the environmental health committee, stated that the committee was identifying the meat sources in shops and noticed that there were some shops and restaurants with unknown meat sources. Later the committee discovered that the source was an illegal slaughterhouse that supplies restaurants with the meat. “The slaughterhouse was managed by Arab expats and was very active during holidays and special occasions. The municipality seized the meat at the site before its delivery,” said Dr. Al-Faraj. Dr. Al-Faraj said the municipality is going to demolish the site at the expense of the owner. According to the list of financial sanctions, the slaughterhouse is not licensed for practice. The environmental health committee raided an unlicensed restaurant that prepares meals in a farm location. Dr. Al-Faraj said the committee investigated the ad of one of the restaurants that provides meals. When investigating the source of the food, it led them to the farm location, which is not licensed to prepare or deliver food. “The committee shut down the site, detained the staff and called the owner. The restaurant was fined with not less than SR10,500 and another SR500 for working without a health certificate,” added Dr. Al-Faraj.
