ResizeJAZAN — The Ministry of Health has announced that only health directorates are allowed to maintain social media accounts.
Director General of Jazan Health Affairs Khalid Al-Asiri said he instructed all hospitals and health institutions to deactivate their social media accounts and redirect followers to its unified accounts.
A source said the ministry issued new regulations prohibiting hospitals and health centers from opening their own social media accounts.
“The regional laboratory took the initiative to announce on its Twitter account that it was deactivating the account as instructed by the Ministry of Health.
“However, Twitter users reacted to the decision expressing their view that the decision does not serve the interests of the patients,”said the source.
Twitter users opined that one account is not enough to facilitate communication between various health institutions and patients, the source added.
“According to the users, the directorate’s accounts will only post news about official events and will ignore patients’ concerns,”said the source.
