Saudi woman bags silver in Arab chess competition

JEDDAH — Jawhara Bint Hassan has won the second place in the first women’s chess competition organized in Jeddah by the Saudi Committee for Mental Sports recently.

As many as 20 women from Saudi Arabia and five other Arab countries including Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Yemen participated in the contest.

Princess Lama Khaled Al-Dousary, who opened the contest, called for spreading the culture of mental games in the Kingdom especially chess which activates the mind and helps prevent depression.

The princess said the the mental games help fight Alzheimer’s disease. She said young women and children sharpen their acuity by playing such games.
