MALE — A court in the Maldives Tuesday issued an order summoning the country’s first elected president Mohamed Nasheed after he boycotted the scheduled start of his criminal trial, police said.

“The Hulhumale Magistrate’s Court has issued an order to police to produce ex-president Nasheed before the court on Oct. 7,” police spokesman Hassan Haneef said. The government has warned that Nasheed risked arrest if he ignored the court twice. — AFP
