JEDDAH — The Jeddah Ladies Club (JLC) recently organized a ladies get-together at a local restaurant here.



The event was attended by local business women, and working ladies from different professions: Amrina Qaisar, a jewelry designer; Fariha Mansoor, a dress designer; Lata, an abaya designer; Uzma Khan, chef and owner of Divine Cakes and Chocolates, among others.



Nilo Haq, a makeup artist and brand ambassador of Ponds, was the chief guest of the evening. Addressing the gathering, she praised the working environment of ladies in the Kingdom and encouraged everyone to work with passion and create an identity of their own.



Sameera Mohsin, a leader of a public relation campaign at the International Diagnostic Center (IDC), gave an informative presentation on breast cancer awareness.



An Urdu lecture and poetry was delivered by Bint-ul Hassan, a senior teacher of Pakistan International School Jeddah -English Section. Mansoor, Shabina, and other talented ladies sang melodious songs and gave laudable dance performances.



Ladies also played an interesting game called “rapid fire,” winners of which walked away with amazing prizes.



Humera Chaudhary, a social activist and the organizer of the show, said that she believes every woman should contribute toward the development of society in whatever way possible.



She added: “JLC is dedicated to community improvement through volunteer services and provides opportunities that strengthen the role of women.”

Chaudhary wanted women to expand their horizons by meeting new people, stimulating new interests, gaining more knowledge about this fast-paced world, among others. With this aim in mind, Chaudhary launched a JLC group on Facebook in 2010.



Since then, it has been a unifying force in often bringing together local women under one roof. Currently, there are 1,500 members in JLC with considerable diversity in age, interest and experience.



“The event was very successful and it was appreciated by almost all the attendees and guests. I am sure it will inspire women of other communities in the city to join our group and experience what all its about,” said Chaudhary after delivering the vote of thanks.
