JEDDAH — Butt Sports Club beat a young Saliheen by 72 runs to lift the Jotun Paints Cup, while Al-Khulais-XI defeated IBS Cricketers by 42 runs to bag the Jotun Consolation Cup for the third position here recently. This tournament was sponsored by the Jotun Paints Company Saudi Arabia and organized by the Jeddah Cricket Association (JCA).



Opting to bat, Butt Sports amassed 222-9. Zia and Tariq, who opened the innings, added 40 runs in the first 4 overs. Tariq scored 56 (3x4, 3x6) off 27 balls. Zia was out for 16 (1x6). Javed made 27 (3x4, 1x6), Abdul Rahman 48 in 22 balls with 7 boundaries and Waqas 35 with three fours. For Saliheen, Farhat grabbed 4-28, Faisal 3-29 and Tabassum 2-56.



Saleheen openers Faisal Khan and Hameed Gul were out for 14 and 7, respectively. Sabir Ali was run out for 15. Umar scored 22 (4x3) and  Tabassum 33 (4x1, 6x1). Saleheen was all out for 150. Abdul Rahman claimed 3-25, Javed 2-13, while Umar, Waqas and Zeeshan took one wicket each. Abdul Rahman was declared the Man-of-the-Match.



Consolation Cup




Khulais-XI, batting first, scored 194 through Irshad 68 (7x4, 3x6), Javed 19 (3x4, 1x6), Adnan 20 and Shahid 27 not out (2x4, 1x6). For IBS, Nusruth and Mohsin claimed 2 wickets each for 25 and 51, respectively. Ziaul Haq, Ali and Qaisar took one wicket each. In reply, IBS could manage only 152. Shoaib was the main contributor with 56. Shahid took 4-31.



Faisal Karim was the chief guest during the prize distribution ceremony which was held soon after the final. After the recitation of verses from the holy Qur’an, Majeedul Hassan, General Secretary of JCA, welcomed the gathering. JCA President Mohammad Iqbal congratulated the winner and runner-up teams. He also thanked the Jotun Paints company for supporting JCA activities and appreciated the hard-working executive committee. Karim expressed his happiness over the successful tournament and assured Jotun Paints company’s commitment for the future events of JCA.

JCA also presented appreciation plaques to sponsors, umpires Kumar Krishnan and Azam Khan and medals to all the players of the champion and runner-up teams.
