MAKKAH – The Fahd Photo Gallery, opened a month ago at Swissotel Makkah, has concluded its activities on a successful note. This is the second time the gallery was organized in Makkah and introduced the general public and visitors to the Kingdom’s historical and cultural heritage.
Visitors had an opportunity to see a large number of photographs captured by Fahd Al-Safeh, a well-known Saudi photographer, who traveled to different regions of the Kingdom and visited several towns and villages in order to capture photographs that reflect the original Saudi culture and heritage. All photos had Arabic and English captions. Al-Safeh took millions of photographs during his Kingdom-wide journey. Some of his works shed light on the tools used by Saudis around 70 years ago.
The event included segments showing children wearing traditional clothes reflecting the heritage of each region in the country. The costumes were designed by Hayfa Al-Saqqaf, a Saudi well-known designer specialized in traditional costumes. Visitors were introduced as well to the some Hejazi traditional and folklore dances and saw live falcons at the exhibition. The entire location was decorated using Hejazi and Jazani chairs, floors etc.
Productive families had a chance to showcase their works to visitors who were introduced to traditional jobs many Saudis used to do in the past such as beekeeper, beadmaker etc. Each explained the nature of their job to visitors to give them a clear idea about the type of tools used at the time. One of the sections displayed photographs of the Zamzam Well and offered short history about Zamzam water. Another hall showcased Islamic art and Arabic calligraphy and even distributed booklets and gifts to visitors. One of the halls introduced visitors to a group of well-known Arab poets of the pre- and post-Islamic eras.
