Zahirians cricket in Jeddah

JEDDAH — The Old Boys Association of the renowned Zahira College Colombo is organizing a get-together by conducting a one-day sevens cricket tournament at STC grounds here Friday.

The Zahirians in Jeddah is holding such an event for the first time. One of the pioneer educational establishments in Sri Lanka, Zahira College, was established in 1892. The tourney is dubbed as ZCC-OBAJ 7’s.

The event is sponsored by Brasa De Brazil, Bin Kamal and Saed CC.

About 40 players will line up in four teams named Angora, Baghdad, Cordova and Instanbul and vie for honors in this unique tournament which will see 8 matches from 4 p.m. to 12 midnight Friday.

Besides the trophies for the winner and runner-up teams, other special prizes like Best Batman, Best Bowler, Man of the Final, Man of the Tournament and memorable performances, if any, will be awarded to the deserving players.

Prominent members from the cricket circle in Jeddah are expected to grace the occasion. — SG
