JEDDAH - By reviving the art of calligraphy, a new generation of Saudis are showing their love for the Arabic language and the unique art of calligraphy. For artists like Shaker Kashgari, calligraphy is not only a passion but a career path.

Kashgari, a full-time calligrapher, participated in a back to school event over the weekend at Crate KSA where he took part in a live Arabic calligraphy event.

Kashgari, who studied Information Technology at King Abdulaziz University, gave people a demonstration on freestyle calligraphy techniques and what tools to use. Commenting on the event, he said it was a chance for him as a calligrapher to interact with people.

“It is a nice chance for people to see something beautiful being created and written live, instead of seeing it in social media,” he said.

The event also included other activities and guests had the opportunity to buy local, handmade products.

The event was the brainchild of Crate KSA founder Rayan Fadul.
