Witness winter wonderland at Kemi’s Snowcastle

Everything made of ice and snow

February 03, 2018

Pure white snow walls surround the gigantic SnowCastle built entirely out of snow and ice, both made of seawater. This amazing artwork of ice and snow can be found right by the frozen sea near Kemi city centre. The castle is open from the end of January until mid-April. The world’s largest SnowRestaurant seats around 200 guests. Ice is used to decorate the castle and to make tables at the SnowRestaurant, which is again cut and lifted from the sea.

Everything is made only from natural materials - snow and ice, and you need plenty of it, as the 3700 m2 in total and over 2000m2 indoor area in this snowy castle demands a lot of building material. The SnowHotel with unique, beautifully decorated snow rooms offers a true arctic adventure. The enormous SnowCastle is a unique venue for visitors offering also various winter activities.

SnowCastle has opened the doors for the 23rd time and annually changing theme this year is Animal Wonderland. The Castle consists of stunning snow and ice sculptures that present animals from Finland and elsewhere - all the way from Mexico and Thailand. If you are looking for a wedding location to amaze your friends, there is a special venue for it too.

Icebreaker Cruises And Other Authentic Adventures On The Frozen Sea

The castle by the frozen sea is an amazing attraction and it can be visited daily. There is a warm building with a cafè and lounge that serves customers non-stop for 24 hours. There is a versatile weekly programme available, where you can choose from a list of activities. The Icebreaker Cruise is carried through a historical vessel called Sampo, which is the number one attraction along with the SnowCastle in Kemi. Combine these two with an overnight stay in the SnowHotel or Seaside Glass Villas and enjoy dinner by the ice tables and other arctic adventures for a memorable holiday.

The Seaside Glass Villas accommodate guests throughout the year by the sea that freezes over in winter. Villas are mostly made of glass so the guests can admire the sea and sky views through the glass roof and huge floor-to-ceiling windows. SnowRestaurant is a World Luxury Restaurant Winner and both SnowHotel and Seaside Glass Villas are World Luxury Hotel Winners offering bespoken luxurious experiences.

Snowcastle Will Be Open All-Year-Round In 2019
