RIYADH — Ministry of Interior spokesman said that four security officials were martyred in attacks in Asir Thursday night. At around 12.45 a.m. on Thursday, a security checkpoint on Arqoub Road, linking Al-Majarida and Bariq governorates in the southern Asir region, came under gunfire from an unknown source and that resulted in the martyrdom of three security officials, the Saudi Press Agency reported quoting the spokesman.
The dead are Sgt. Ahmed Ibrahim Asiri, Deputy Sgt. Abdullah Al-Shihri, and Deputy Sgt. Saleh Al-Amri. The security authorities succeeded in identifying a number of those involved in the crime and arrested two of them, both Saudis.
During a massive manhunt for the attackers, the security forces found a third person, who was involved in the crime, trying to run away from the scene.
In the ensuing shootout, the man, who was identified as Bandar Al-Shihri, was killed. In the exchange of fire, five security personnel sustained injuries and one of them succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital, the spokesman said.
